The provocative configurations of PARTS by heather jewelry reflect sensual beauty and accentuate distinction, resulting in deliciously imperfect, wearable works of art.
ALBERTA BORN DESIGNER HEATHER MANDIN IS ENAMORED with the concept of using art to connect people and shape a positive environment. She has been actively involved in the art scene, as a teacher (for children and youth), a curator, a designer and volunteer for over a decade. After Graduating from Fine Arts at the University of Alberta, Heather dedicated many years to working with communities in need of a voice. Through her work in community radio, she reached out to a plethora of not-for-profits and was actively involved in creating educational art programs for inner city and immigrant children and advocating for street youth and minors in the criminal justice system. Curating thought-provoking exhibits, producing radio documentaries, and creating a voice for otherwise unheard communities pushed Mandin to hone her creative skills and use them to overcome challenges and build bridges. She became passionate about celebrating difference rather than isolating it and recognizing the beauty hidden within imperfection.
In 2006, Heather moved to Vancouver to further her own design aspirations. PARTS is Heather’s first ongoing solo project. Inspired by her environmental surroundings, her world travels, and the grace and elegance of wabi sabi, each PARTS by Heather design is constructed ‘one molecule at a time,’ reflecting sensual beauty and provocative configurations. In 2008, Heather received an unexpected legacy: a friend of her grandmother's, who created her own designs from collected antiques, passed away. She bestowed the remaining antiques to Heather. This gift inspired PARTS by Heather to become more eco friendly and prompted a magnificent collection of one of a kind designs from a cornucopia of re-worked treasures. While some prefer to choose their own focal piece and have Mandin create a customized design for them, others prefer to wait in anticipation of the next collection. Always taking inspiration from the Avant Garde, the highly-stylized, curvilinear Art Nouveau, and the Romance of the 1950’s pearl necklace, PARTS by Heather Jewelry unites raw, organic, reclaimed, and hand-sourced materials with curves, angles, colors and shapes that accentuate distinction. The result? A deliciously imperfect wearable work of art.
